  • Cost of Living
The cost of living increased during the pandemic, and prices have not come back down.   The president has initiated a trade war by invoking tariffs to fund tax cuts for the wealthy. Tariffs will increase prices even more for the average American. Tariffs are taxes on foreign goods passed on to the consumer, and they will hit the working class the hardest. According to the Budget Lab at Yale University, tariffs will increase the cost of goods by 2.3%, costing American families approximately $3800 per year.
  • Agriculture
Despite being in a years-long drought, construction continues on new housing throughout Comal County. Developers apply to the Texas Water Company (TWC) for approval of developments at Canyon Lake. If the TWC approves the application, then Comal County has no authority to limit growth in the county, outside of city limits. Current Texas law prohibits counties from managing development if there is enough water under the ground to sustain a housing development or if the developer promises to supply water, despite what the construction may do to current water users. We encourage passing legislation in the Texas legislature that gives counties the authority they need to manage growth and development.
  • Education
The Trump administration is jeopardizing education for millions of students by gutting the Department of Education as it closed key offices and fired half of its workforce. This is all part of Trump’s attempts to terminate the Department of Education. The Department of Education has an enormous effect on the day-to-day lives of students across the country. They are tasked with protecting civil rights on campus and ensuring that every student – regardless of where they live, their family's income, or their race, sex, gender identity, or disability – has equal access to education. Returning education decisions to each individual state is dangerous.
  • Gun Reform
To reduce gun violence, we advocate using common sense measures such as universal background checks, red flag laws, and raising the age to purchase semi-automatic rifles to 21.
  • Healthcare
The current administration is focused on slashing Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, protections for reproductive health, and healthcare for all. MEDICARE provides medical coverage for senior citizens who are aged 65 or older. It is separate from Medicaid, which provides comprehensive coverage of health and long-term care to people based on income. MEDICAID accounts for more than half of spending on long-term care. Cuts to Medicaid would impact more than 83 million people, including children living in poverty and the disabled. SOCIAL SECURITY is NOT an entitlement program. Rather, it is a social insurance program that is funded by OUR payroll taxes. It provides benefits to retirees, the disabled, and survivors. Social Security provides a social safety net to people who otherwise would have no source of income. Cuts to social security staffing will make it MORE difficult for people to access benefits they have paid for and increase wait times on the phone. REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE Learn more about what is being done to PROTECT rights and advance safe abortion care, ENSURE adolescents can make informed decisions about their health, REMOVE barriers to infertility care, EXPAND access to effective and affordable contraception, PROTECT the sexual and reproductive rights of women and girls, and ADVOCATE for laws and policies to improve maternal health outcomes.

  • Water Crisis
The water supply faces outdated infrastructure, climate change, and increased demand from a growing population. State leaders say they are ready to make big investments. Will that be enough? Texas towns and cities will face a water drought by 2030. How can Texans save its water supply?
